Archives for July 2018

Hey fam,

Last night and today I watched and re-watched the documentary on Paramount and BET channel. The documentary is “Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story-Stand Your Ground”. This is just the first episode of six.

This particular episode explains the beginning. The rawness of what Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton went through. What they did when they were finally allowed to hear the 911 calls with the help of their lawyer, Benjamin Crump. They showed George Zimmerman at the crime scene walkthrough.

What I didn’t know was that literally all but 71 seconds are accounted for Travon. The call was dispatched and 71 seconds later the call was escalated to a shooting. The last thing that dispatch says to George Zimmerman is “are you following him? We don’t need you to do that”. He didn’t retreat to his vehicle and wait for police. He followed him and then we hear screams and the “pop” of the gun going off. This information came from other 911 calls.

Watching this made me angry and teary-eyed. The “stand your ground” law came into effect under Jeb Bush and the NRA. This law doesn’t give the prosecutor the power but law enforcement. No one ever mentioned what if this man was wrong. Will I watch the next episode? Yup, I sure will and you should too. Watch this episode on “On Demand” and the future episodes on BET or Paramount channel at 10 pm on Monday nights.

Hey fam,

Happy Cheesecake Day everyone!

Today is National Cheesecake Day! I don’t really like cheesecake, yeah right. Sure I do, if it comes from Cheesecake Factory it’s on or maybe a homemade one (depending on who makes it) or Juniors.

Juniors Strawberry Cheese Pie

If I had known this ahead of time, I would have gone to the ultimate place for cheesecake, Junior’s in Brooklyn. If you have never been there, you are missing out. Sure you can purchase one from QVC but it’s not the same. Plus the best thing about going is you will see other items that are made that they don’t sell on QVC. My all-time favorite thing I get from them is the “Strawberry Cheese pie”. OMG, it is the bomb dot com!! It has huuuge strawberries covered in a strawberry glaze with the cheese pie filling. It’s been a long time since I’ve had this from Juniors but after seeing the price of it umm I don’t know.

Very Cherry Ghirardelli Cheesecake

Now back to Cheesecake Factory, because of today, you can get a slice for half price today, if you eat in. While you’re there instead of going for your usual (I have a few favorites) why not try their new cheesecakes they are debuting, “Very Cherry Ghirardelli Cheesecake” and “Cinnabon Cinnamon Swirl Cheesecake”. Well, I don’t know about you but I might be heading there for dessert tonight.

Hey fam,

Happy Saturday and National Dance Day!

That’s right fam. The National Dance day puts out a routine for you and your friends to learn. I don’t know about you but getting a routine can be a little complicated for me sometimes. I’m a little dyslexic and sometimes I just do things backward. You should see me in workout classes. Anywho, I’m going to try doing this routine and I’ll let you know how it works out. Here’s the routine and tell me how it worked for you.

On Saturdays, my mom and I go to the hair salon. Usually, when we go, it seems that somehow we get into a “deep discussion”. But after our ride to our family reunion, it’s a completely different thing. Now we ride to comedy channels on XM. What I found is that comedy has brought us together. I never realized she has a sense of humor. To hear her laugh though is great. I don’t think she even realized she hadn’t laughed since before my dad died. It took me by surprise too. Now she’s telling stories about herself of when she was younger. What I have is a changed and happy mom.

It’s been said that laughter makes you sleep and feel better. Well, here’s to laughter helping my Mom feel better after turning 89 on July 11. Y’all get that routine down and even if you don’t you will get a great laugh.

I told myself that I would do better in keeping up with Jim Carrey’s “portrait” tweets. And once again, I lied. Gawd . . . “I’m such a failure.” But I won’t fret to much about it, cuz I’m back and here with several of Carrey’s most outstanding political “twitter” portraits for the month of July (Now, how about that).

Besides Jim’s witty portraits, his consistently strong message of telling folks to register to “VOTE” is prominent.  So LISTEN and yeah . . . Happy FRIDAY!!!

And my personal favorite. . .

One thing that I know about Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s former advisor, is that “she’s one classy lady‘. And here’s why.

As Huffington Post reports, while appearing on “The View” this past Wednesday as a guest, Jarrett “finally” addressed the whole Rosanne Barr debacle. And whether she was “pressed a.k.a bothered” of what this ignorant, whacked-out actress said about her.

In a classy fashion, Valarie stated the following . . .

” [Jokingly at First] If one of you said something like that about me, that might hurt my feelings. This isn’t what keeps me up at night.

She continued . . .

“What keeps me up at night are those families being separated at the border. Or our children who go to school worrying about whether or not they’re going to be safe and the parents dropping them off. These are the things that keep me up at night. Not a racist tweet”.

Finally, when asked about how she would respond to the newly released video of Rosanne allegedly appearing as if she’s under some type of substance, smoking a cigarette and yelling “I thought the bitch was white!”, Jarrett responded with this subtle shade “Roseanne who?

Yeah, like I said earlier, Valarie Jarrett is a “classy” lady. Cuz folks, it could not have been me, is all I’m saying. IT. COULD. NOT. HAVE. BEEN. ME!!!
