Archives for January 2017

So…I went to church this past Sunday, Jan. 29th and what would’ve been the odds that this blog, that I began writing on the 27th , was similar to the sermon preached on Sunday?  The sermon was about human revolutions. Now, I’m not the biggest history guru but I can say that over the past 10 years, I’ve become increasingly observant. It seems to me that what’s currently going down in the USA seems to be a repeat of the injustice African-Americans endured during the 19th century which led to the civil rights movement. The difference now is that it’s happening to all of whom “THEY” like to call minorities: people of other races who are from different countries. As an American citizen, born and raised in this country, I’m confused now. I thought this was the land of opportunity and freedom. Everyday, I keep asking myself, “What the H – E – double hockey sticks is going on”? “What’s going to happen to me”? “What’s going to happen to my children”? I’ve actually been envisioning a revolution occurring in the near future. I mean, at the end of the day, history does have a way of repeating itself, just like fashion. Let us pray…

Ok so I’m a little late but it still feels the same (whose fault is this?) Spoiler TV

So this weekend I was essentially bedridden with a cold, so I took this time to catch up on a few TV shows I haven’t seen in a while. One of which is the award-winning show Black-ish, the episode titled Lemons. In it, they spend time discussing their concerns and fears surrounding the Presidential election of Donald Trump. It was interesting to me the way the writers and directors of that particular episode chose to attack the individual reasons that each person could feel that resulted in their action or inaction throughout the electoral process.

I happen to really appreciate the breakdown in perspective of Catherine Reitman’s character Lucy; when things became very uncomfortable because of their focus on her after an apparent quiet spell. She openly admitted that she voted for Trump and not because she doesn’t agree that he has done despicable things but because she could not get a gage on his Opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Dre (played by Anthony Anderson) continues to try to get his co-workers to focus on the project at hand, but to no avail, the election is the sole topic of interest. After clearly getting nowhere in his effort to “move on” Dre finally has his fill of talk and goes off on the entire group.Fox News

Seeing as it was not my intention to retell the whole show, I will redirect myself back to the point of this blog. We all have our feelings about why or why not the person who currently holds the highest office in the US is who he is, and we all will feel that our point of view or perspective is most valid, but I think it’s safe to say that as a country we aren’t broken.

How do we continue to claim that we are the best and should be held in high regard, when we don’t like each other, we don’t like anyone else, and we certainly don’t respect the lives and contribution every person has the potential to give?

How can we push others out of the way, ban then based solely only the fears of few and say we are a country of the free and the brave.

In a truly FREE world we should be encouraging, and as a collective working toward a common goal of a more beneficial and complete life, instead we are allowing a person to sign away the rights and essentially the voices of many because he doesn’t understand.

Anyway, (as I climb off my soapbox) I greatly enjoyed this particular episode of Black-ish and wished to commend the writers that so eloquently put that script together. It was truly a night of enjoyable tv and if you haven’t seen it, you really should.

Until next time, try to me more conscience, try to value not only your life but the lives of others.

Hey fam!

I have started this blog and erased it several times today because of what I heard last night. The news item that got underneath my skin is the Emmet Till alleged victim. It was revealed that the victim, Carolyn Bryant, admitted to making part of her testimony up. This isn’t new considering the time that this incident happened. The story of a 14-year-old black boy from Chicago visiting Mississippi, being accused of whistling and doing things to a white woman. The year was 1955. Three days later his body was found in the Tallahatchi River, with a bullet in his head, an eye gouged out, barbed wire around his neck and weighted down with a 75lb. cotton gin fan!!

Why am I so angered by this? It brings to my mind how many other boys and men that were hung like “strange fruit” from a tree all because some white woman stated that a black male looked, talked, or did something to her which wasn’t true. But that didn’t bother her, all it did was puff her up to believe that she was the “isht”. Not only did this 14-year-old lose what he could have been, his mother missed it too. His mother had the strength to show the world what was happening to our boys and men. To let them see how little we were thought about. How expendable we are being treated.

Now that this woman is close to seeing her maker she wants to make things right. The author of the book, “The Blood of Emmet Till”, Timothy Tyson, stated that in 2007 she admitted “that parts not true” when she was 72 years old. She admits that, “That nothing that boy did could ever justify what happened to him.” She doesn’t seem to remember what happened. So she wants the story told to clear her conscious, I guess. She had all this time but she chose now. I haven’t made up my mind if I want to read her story. Perhaps if the funds made from this book are going to an organization and none to her or her family.

Please excuse my anger to this…it’s just outrageous to see this…I just can’t get passed the fact that she feels that after all this time she gets a pass with “that part’s not true”!  How long can this keep going on!!  The facts for this story are from

Yelp, Super Bowl time is almost here and once again, the Dolphins ain’t representing. What the doohickey?!But I digressed. And FINALLY . . .

Unknown  Buffalo Wing Pizza: We all know that it wouldn’t be a Super Bowl party without Buffalo Wings. But honestly, there are folks out there who don’t like the messiness of wings. Yeah I know, how weird. Because of that, I thought that  “Endless Simmer’s” Buffalo Wing Pizza would be the perfect solution for those “neaties”! I mean, what a freakin’ fantastic idea?! Combining wings, chicken, bread and cheese together, it’s genius I tell y’ah. Just GENIUS!

If you asked anyone who knows me, they will I say that “I’m not an award show watcher and/or fan”. I leave that particular excitement for Collins Journey. She lives for stuff like that. But honestly, my belief in regards to this award shows is this, “If you make millions of dollars in either music and/or movies, then that’s enough honors and/or awards for y’ah. With all that money that entertainers earns, why not let them buy their own trophy and celebrate it their own way. But none the less, I understand that there are folks who live for events like these, so who am I to rain on their parade.  Which brings me to today’s blog.

Since most of America, heck the world is still mourning the Obama’s not in office anymore, we’ve some how tumbled blindly into “the awards” season.  And not to over look the diversity of this year’s Oscar Award Nominations and IMSS Upcoming Contest so don’t forget to participate, some folks is a little upset. Why? Because it appears as if  their movie and/or actors/actresses didn’t get nominated. I believe the term that’s they are using  is the “Biggest Oscar Snubs of 2017”. Yep, SNUBS.  To be honest, the only movie that I enjoyed was “Sing” and maybe “Fantastic Beast” (Verdict is still out about that one). But “Sing” didn’t get nominated and I’m not bitter.  Anywhoozle, that wasn’t the case for some people.

As reported by Digital Spy, although there was some surprised nominees in this 2017 Oscar nominations, there were also some notable snubs. To be exact, 7 to which the Oscar committee ignored. Before I list them, I have a little DISCLAIMER: I haven’t watch many movies in 2016 or 2017  to decide if they warranted a “snub” by the Oscars or not. So my commentary will only reflect those who list  their disappointments in “why” certain movies and/or persons weren’t included in this race for that “golden” honor.  Let’s do this . . .

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 1 – LOVING: Although actress Ruth Negga got the Best Actress nod, Joel Edgerton was overlooked for Best Actor. This historical drama film tells the story of Richard and Mildred Loving and their landmark case of Loving v. Virginia. Since this story deals with an interracial couple fighting to be legally married in the sixites, and it’s now 2017 and some may questioned the snub by the Academy. Aren’t we suppose to be living in the times of equality? Despite having an idiot in office at the moment.

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 2- THE BIRTH OF A NATION: The reason why some believe this movie was overlooked by the Academy is due to some ‘personal controversy issues’ that surrounded the Director. But yet, Mel Gibson was nominated for Best Director this time around. Really?

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 3- AMY ADAMS: It appears as if Adams did an outstanding job in both “The Arrival and Nocturnal Animals”. So why she wasn’t included in the “Best Actress” Nomination category, is a ‘shocker’ to some. I only remembered this chic in a movie with Pat Dempsey and I didn’t see that completely. But if they say she was “awesome” in those other movies and should have been nominated, then okay.

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 4- SILENCE: I love Martin Scorsese although his movies is little . . . Violent. He was snubbed in categories of “Best Cinematography,  Best Picture and even Best Director” for his newly released movie  called “Silence”. What is this world coming to?! First the “Obamas” and now this!

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 5- CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR AND DEADPOOL: Since Mad Max’s Fury Road got Best Picture nomination last year, some wondered why Civil War and/or Deadpool wasn’t qualified for at least the “technical categories”. I’m still getting over the disappointing “Suicide Squad”, so I’m totally turned-off on any comic movie for the moment. If these two movies deserved a nom and didn’t get it, I can’t say. My husband did mentioned that he enjoyed Deadpool, so I’ll just ask him his opinion.

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 6- FINDING DORY: First, let me say that “I love me some Ellen (And my aunt who name is that as well)”. And most animation made by Pixar usually dominates the Oscars. So why “Finding Dory” wasn’t nominated is a shocker to most. Especially since “Finding Nemo” won Best Animation in 2004 and “Finding Dory” was the second highest grossing movie in 2016. I’m not understanding this snub myself. Hello, did I mention “Ellen” was Dory and how I love her.

And FINALLY. . .

Academy_Award_trophySnubby 7- NOCTURNAL ANIMALS: Since this movie thriller won 9 BAFTA nominations including Best Actor for Jake Gyllenhaal, the shocker here is that the Academy “largely ignored” it in other categories except for Support Actor. I vaguely remember seeing any advertisement of this movie, so I can’t say it deserved it’s snub from the Academy Award committee or not. It certainly got snub from me. I just found out what “Nocturnal” means. And that I’m that type of person! I’m just saying.
